William Jurian Kaula diary
8 APR 1898
Representatives of the Six Great Powers paid a visit yesterday to the President and presented a note, duly authorized in the names of their respective governments, and made "pressing appeal" to the "humanity and moderation" of the United States and expressed hope that further negotiations might "lead to an agreement that would offer necessary garantees [sic] for the re-establishment of order in Cuba." The President made a very courteous reply and stated that his motives were as unselfish as those which animated European Statesmen to take measure to "end a situation, the indefinite prolongation of which has become insufferable." The note was a clever piece of work and had nothing in it of a nature of a threat. No suggestion was made that the U.S. had not moral justification in attacking Spain according to accepted principals of International Law. The situation can now only be changed by concession from Madrid.

Would like to see a date of this pic. Seem to be a number of similar looking houses in N.I..
Too bad we have no names or location. These people made photography look painful.
