FOURTH OF JULY AND MEMORIAL DAY.
There will be no school to-morrow
Because 'tis the Fourth of July; And why is that a holiday, pray, Can you tell me the reason why?
'Tis because its our nation's birthday,
The day we resolved to be free From the yoke of a foreign nation,
That lived far away o'er the sea. When the children bring spring flowers "Tis because we love our country,
And can you tell me, mother,
Why Memorial Day we keep?
To the graves where the soldiers sleep?
And the boys who life-blood gave
For the love they hore the Union, That we deck each soldier's grave.
