December 3, (1932?)
Antti Anttila died at his home December 3, at the age of 79 years. Mr. Anttila at the time of his death was the town's oldest citizen and holder of the Boston Post cane. Mr. Anttila was born in Finland and had lived in this town 33 years, being the first Finnish man to settle here. He was a prosperous and industrious farmer. He leaves two sons, Alexander and Oscar, and one daughter, Mrs. Hugo Flinkstrom, of this town.

James Roger diary entry
23rd May 1913
A good rain all day; wind N.E. Dr. Stimson came at 11:30 and located mother’s trouble as a scerrhosis [cirrhosis] growth in the large intestine, which cannot be operated on, both from position of lump and the age of patient, but mother feels cheerful and is a little better; also wearies to get sitting up as she thinks it might induce sleep. I planted out John Preston’s flowers in his vases. David brought them from Express Office yesterday. David is going to Greenville tonight with fowls for Berkley. David and Walter Hardy vacuum cleaned John Preston’s house. Mrs. Spofford and Miss Palmer came tonight.
I stood in front of Antilla's gravestone during the memorial service. Thanks to Carl all those old gravestones looked almost new. With regards to James' mother, I doubt she had cirrhosis, most likely sclerosis from colon cancer. Her skin would have been yellow if she had cirrhosis.
