Marion Davis Audio-Tape Transcriptions
Sometime before her death in 1986, Marion Davis recorded her memories at the encouragement of her brother, Walter Buck. The recordings were transcribed by a secretary.
The Friends of Wapack have made these available to the Historical Society. Marion was born on February 8, 1894 in Fitchburg, MA.
Arthur C. Comey and group
I remember the time when Arthur Comey came through with a group; they went up to Russell Station, started from there to come thru to the Lodge. I was expecting them; they had notified me 12 of them. They thought they would be there by 6 o'clock. They had to come over North Pack, South Pack and over Temple Mt. to the Lodge--quite a long siege of it, but they had started early in the morning and snow conditions were ideal. Well, it was 8 o'clock before they got there, and they were pretty tired out, but I had a big supper. The next morning one man who was with them had had a flu attack and he shouldn't have gone on the trip he was pretty weak. He was determined he was going on on this trip. I found out afterward when they got up on the middle of Barrett Mt. he collapsed and they had to go down to George Wilder at the Wilder Place (which is now Timbertop) to get some help. Mrs. Wilder happened to be a nurse so they improvised a stretcher and took him down to her and she gave him first aide. She called up an uncle of his; they came up to get him and he was taken to a Boston hospital.

James Roger diary entry
21st January 1913
Rain during night; growing colder and freezing roads hard and rough; wind northwest. David cutting brush in forenoon and helping Lonie in afternoon. I broke up some old wood.
Arthur Comey was a professor at Harvard's Graduate School of City Planning in addition to being avid hiker. He lectured on both planning and safe hiking ironically. He should not have gone on that hike.
