William Jurian Kaula diary
16 APR 1898
The hope of averting war is not wholly given up. Every day of delay is a gain for peace. The Senate and the house are still busy and have been working in more harmony. The affairs of the past few days were enough to help spoil a good cause. A statement published in London says that public toleration of Congress is a thing more disheartening than Congress itself, only tends to make more trouble in Congress. Congress does not represent the opinions of all the people but many are clamoring for action, immediate and vigorous action. This feeling is kept at boiling pitch by the newspapers. The Powers will probably not attempt another offer of their "good offices" as they regard their first as more or less of a snub at Washington.

James Roger diary entry

Fair and warm wind variable. David at Miss Palmer’s. I put out horses, cows and heifer and cleaned their places. Mother and I swept Church vestry, little room, stairs &c. &c. Professor Lane of Cushing Academy called tonight asking to come and pull his auto out of the mud. He got stuck about Lonie’s somewhere. David went with Tom.
Nice Bank Village photos. Shows Old Country Rd, River Rd, the Kaula houses, and the Preston (extreme left) and mystery barns (extreme right).
