Preston and his aunt Martha Granger Preston. The two ladies in the black dresses are Mrs. Mellen C. Bragg and Mrs. N. M. Smith. NIHS no. 92.604

I left Crécy with Miss Shuttleworth* at noon. With all our combines baggage and two bicycles we loaded the omnibus so completely that passengers along the route to Esbly complained because there was no more room for their effects. I transported my things across Paris on top of a cab. This monument of things was surmounted by my bicycle whose wheels loomed high up above the passing traffic. Cartwright was at the studio. He has been waiting for me before we arranged the place and it has now the aspect of a barn and it was as far from looking like a cosey [sic] place.
* Mrs. King and M. Amsden will stay a week or two longer owing to the fine weather.

3rd (Tuesday)
Mild day wind westerly. David on roads down town. Hamish was telephoned for to Ayer this afternoon, as Berkley got his got hurt and was laid up. Election Day a very tame affair.

Finished up about half past 6. They were more Democrats than N.I. I tried to get Mason, but they did not expect to hear results until 9 pm. Got Greenville returns about 8 pm. The returns of general election Came into New Ipswich 11 & 12 but David came away about 9 pm.

NIFD shows off their new fire engine
My father remembered walking by in awe at the big lawn parties that Jimmy Barr used to have at his house in the 1920's. Presumably Jimmy was a descendant of those in the picture. They were a sight to behold for a child of Finnish immigrants. The gentry would come from miles around all dressed up in their fancy cars per my father.
I've been thinking about 3CTS. all day now and my only suggestion is that it could be 3 cents? Would they have been selling something, such as the flags around the sign?
