William Jurian Kaula diary

Another outrageous racket in No. 32. This studio will have a bad reputation for its riotous disturbances. I presume that it is because the holidays are approaching that the boys are having some recreation. It appears that Glover's friend is to depart for America today and he took the crowd out to dinner. They then put him to bed and started for my studio where they arrived at about 4:30 a.m. It was not a noisy gathering this time and all was again quiet in an hour. I got up and helped build a fire to be hospital [sic] and to prevent any damage from being done - Cartwright was full of thrilling war stories which he tells with much vivacity. He is delighted when he can get an interest audience even if it is within an hour of daybreak. He is not working hard this week.
