Camping on the Souhegan
Another photo, another mystery. There is an interesting structure along the water’s edge which appears to be steps or seats. Could this be Water Loom Pond?
Children’s Oak (Stump)
In 1918 Harriet Upham Spofford organized a community chorus. She led the young people in a production of “Robin Hood” under the “Children’s Oak”. Where was this “Children’s Oak”?
It appears to me that this photo was taken on Manley Road near the intersection with Main Street. I believe that this small segment of land is owned by the town which was supposed to protect the tree. Is it time to plant another?

This has been a good growing month – grass is looking well, and fruit flourish and very abundant. But grain is getting to an exorbitant price. Armour & Pathear having wheat corn cornered.

William Jurian Kaula diary
To any lover of nature the very mention of the names of various things that he has seen in nature brings back memories and delicious recollections of the time and place and colors them over again. I can poorly describe the charms of this undulating country without going into minute detail. Our sketches and paintings are of only stray bits of course and would convey a better idea, and I cheerfully recommend anyone to examine them. (The price will be found on the back of each one). So yet we have not painted any masterpieces though several are underway. Several of my productions have been concealed under a coat of white paint so that I can use the canvas for something new. Someday where these successive paintings peal [sic] off and disclose, one by one, a beautiful gem with all the freshness and brilliancy of a recently discovered painting in Pompeii that has been sealed from the light of centuries. To anyone who may ever purchases a picture of mine (God bless him) they will have a life-long pleasure in watching the appearance of a new work that will take the place of the one that is faded and tiresome. This idea has already been patented and I will tolerate no infringements.
This may be slightly upstream of Water Loom Pond? The point of land to the rt in the picture doesn't remind me of WLP but an area just above the Bridge on Old Country rd. A few of us camped there in 1962. If so, there wasn't a boathouse there, but It may have been built and subsequently burned down after that as mentioned.
This looks like Water Loom Pond. The building you see through the trees looks like the boathouse I visited many times. The picture was taken from a boat looking west. The boathouse burned down 50 yrs ago.
