1930 - PTA Scholarship
On Feb. 11, 1930, the New Ipswich Parent-Teacher association voted to offer an annual scholarship of $100 to one member of each graduating class of Appleton academy. The requisites shall be satisfactory scholarship, good moral character and an avowed intention of devoting at least two years of advanced study toward the acquisition of a higher education. The selection of said graduates is in the hands of a committee composed of the principal and teachers of the academy and the president and one appointee of the P. T. A. The appointee was Miss Katharine Preston.
James Roger diary entries
26th August 1912
Dull and cloudy; wind east. David painting at Academy. I got Alice and Roger, Stewart, Johnnie & Mary and cleaned out the Hall and fixed up stove. Also Roger cut John Preston’s lawn. John Cummings & I went to Mr. Heald’s to play golf. Mr. Heald & I played John Cummings and Young Taft 10 holes. They were 2 up; play was interrupted by a sharp thunderstorm and heavy rain.
Got home at 6:30 p.m. Got letter from Hamish. Sidewalk dance tonight.
Thanks for using these pictures. I hope a lot of my former classmates see it and remember the fun we had with this project.
Just one more correction. We were in the second grade in 1950-1951.
