Charles Taylor Chair Factory
I am reasonably certain that this factory was located on Taylor Road directly across the street from Charles Taylor’s home. The land drops down to the Souhegan River behind the building.
Another Chair Factory
This photo was captioned “Chair Factory”. Not sure where it was located. I guess a town can never have enough pizza parlors or chair factories.

James Roger diary entry
15th March 1912
Rain and mist; wind southeast to south. David painting in wagon shed. I set Mr. Tobey’s eggs this morning. Dave got letter from Hamish. Dave got another letter from Hamish from Hotel Greeley. One of the meanest places he ever struck–poor service, poor food, and muddy town.
NOTES:
I would love to learn about where the Greeley Hotel was located
The Taylor chair factory does look like it could have been across the street from our house. There was a milk there for sure at some point.
One of my gr-gr-gr-grandfathers, Colonel Ivers Phillips, 1805-1900, got his start with a chair factory on Phillips Brook in Ashburnham. He attended Appleton Academy for a year or two, though no one in the Historical Society has been able to tell me if attendance rolls exist to confirm that. Phillips later made a lot of money building railroads and, later still, investing in gold mines in Boulder CO. His construction company built Fitchburg City Hall.
