James Roger diary entry
8th April 1913
Cold day, wind north to north west. David & Walter at Gordons’ splitting wood, afterwards at Browns' pruning trees. I've fixed brooder, etc. Dr. thought mother a little better, but she ate some solids at noon and was cramped all afternoon. Berkeley rung up about 6:30 inquiring for mother. They sent 2 salt herring last night. Had letter from Hamish last night. Miss R. doing fairly well.
Were salted herrings somehow considered as therapeutic for digestive problems?
Charles was a selectman and farmer. He died while mowing hay.
