Arthur Thayer Promoted
Arthur S. Thayer, oldest son of Walter S. Thayer and Anne Chandler Thayer, who was born in New Ipswich and prepared for college at Appleton academy, has been elected president of the company by which he is employed in Kenosha, Wis. Mr. Thayer has been with the company since March, 1927, when he opened its New York retail store. In June, 1928, he became eastern district manager, and the following year he was elected vice-president and transferred to the offices in Kenosha. For three years he has been assistant general manager.
After being graduated from Harvard university, Mr. Thayer's experience included association with large stores in Boston, Washington and New York. During the war he purchased over 100 million dollars worth of government supplies as an army officer.
His son Walter now attends Appleton academy.
Charles Wheeler born in 1832 made his home in Smithville where he was the proprietor of the sawmill. He married Nellie Shepard. He also represented the town in the Legislature.
The Thayers were very devoted to their town and country. Also very successful. Arthur become president of a hosiery company in Kenosha Wi in 1939. but committed suicide in 1943. His brother Walter was a WWII fighter pilot and flew 240 missions.
