Class Song
Also undated from the Thayer collection
Appleton, we leave thee To follow life's great course, With many thanks, to thee dear school, Our inspirations' source. And now to bid thee fond farewell With sadness in our hearts, And with song we'll praise thy name -That which the soul imparts. Appleton, with one last gaze We look upon thy hall, And in our new horizon Will come thy beckoning call. Farewell must be our words to thee, O fair Academy! As we leave thy portals now, Farewell! Farewell to thee! Music by Raymond Morin of the Fitchburg High School. Words by Leona H. Clifford
The Hunter
Undated hand colored early photo from the Burton Family albums which were donated by Dennis Gauvin.
The albums were something to see. They were ornate and very heavy.
Formulas
Stephen A. Thayer’s “One Hundred Formulas” was published in 1883. It contains recipes from everything from printing ink to pain killers. I wonder if these fumes would be harmful?
James Roger diary entry
December 18, 1908 (Friday)
Snow fell all day, wind NE to E. David went for a load of logs for Shirland in forenoon on wheels and with sleigh in afternoon for load of wood for Corbett. Got letter from Hamish with cards also letter from Jessie at Oakdale..
I believe that’s my aunt, Miriam Kangas, seated second from right, front row, in the graduating class photo.
Top row, far right, is an Aho who played on the same basketball team with my Dad, and I believe he married Vangie Bernier.
