Marion Davis Audio-Tape Transcriptions
Sometime before her death in 1986, Marion Davis recorded her memories at the encouragement of her brother, Walter Buck. The recordings were transcribed by a secretary.
The Friends of Wapack have made these available to the Historical Society. Marion was born on February 8, 1894 in Fitchburg, MA.
Dogs on the run
One day we were down in back of the Lodge cutting wood We had worked until late in the afternoon, and Frank said, "You'd better go up to the house and get me a bite to eat and I'll go back to the farm." This of course was at the Lodge. So I went up and and opened up the kitchen door. I could hear dogs barking over on the Conant pasture where we had our sheep--my nice little flock of sheep. I ran out to holler to Frank--he was coming on the run. He said, "Get your shotgun and some shells and we'll go over there." So we got into the car and drove over to the gate to the pasture. We could hear those dogs barking up on the hill so we went up on the run. When we got up on top we saw a dog running at a sheep and I began to whistle. She turned and looked at me, it was a female dog. came over to me and pretty soon there was a young dog showed up, about a year old. I whistled to him and he came over to me. He didn't have a collar on so I couldn't get a hold of him but I patted hime and he laid down on the ground near me.
