Marion Davis Audio-Tape Transcriptions
Sometime before her death in 1986, Marion Davis recorded her memories at the encouragement of her brother, Walter Buck. The recordings were transcribed by a secretary.
The Friends of Wapack have made these available to the Historical Society. Marion was born on February 8, 1894 in Fitchburg, MA.
Marion captures the dogs
Then we saw this dog nibbing at a sheep and Frank was quite a ways from me because he had gone in the direction he had heard this dog barking. He hollered to me, "Shall I shoot him?", and I said, "Yes, shoot him". He kept pulling on the trigger but he was so excited he hadn't cocked the gun. Then all of a sudden I saw the dog look toward me so I began to whistle and said "Wait a minute; maybe I can get that one too". By holding the female dog out at arms length he came up to sniff noses with her and I grabbed him by the collar. He turned on me but I choked him. Well, we had him and of course the young dog stayed with us. We put them into the car and drove over to the Lodge and we put them down cellar. Then Frank went downtown to call up the selectmen and tell them that dogs had been killing sheep over in the sheep pasture; also to call up Mable and tell her we had to go back over to the pasture and see if we could make out what happened, he'd be home sometime.

James Roger diary entry - Pullets 18
11th January 1913
Dull, slight thaw, southwest wind. David choring round in forenoon, and Daniel & him fitted in piece of new pipe in kitchen chimney. Dave also cleaned out kitchen stove and fixed the draft. I was not out at all today. Got letters from Alice and Hamish, and Alice has a sore throat. David got a package of candies by parcel post from the girls at Ayer; also cards on his birthday. Pullets 18.
Marion outwits yet another aggressor and gives him a taste of his own medicine.
