Death of E. F. Davis
Elbridge Fordice Davis died March 26 at Grasmere hospital. He was the son of the late Samuel and Mary Jane (Haskell) Davis, who lived on the farm known as the Lewis Robbins farm. He was born Nov. 10, 1848 and attended No. 4 school. Following his school days he was an operative in the Columbian cotton mills and later he became a resident of Greenville, owning a cottage there.
Mr. Davis broke one of his legs last fall and since then had been confined to his bed. He is survived by several brothers and sisters, Mrs. Orrin French, Gardner Gay, Samuel Henry, Leander Joseph and Edward Hildreth, all of whom reside here. A sister, Mrs. Lewis Damon, resides in Townsend, and another sister, Mrs. Charles L. Russell, lives in this town. A. sister, Mrs. Viola (Davis) Wilson, died several years ago.
Burial was in Center cemetery Saturday afternoon. The funeral service was conducted at the grave by Rev. William C. Berkeley. The bearers were Henry Davis, Leander Davis, J. Oliver Reed and Dixon Wheeler. Relatives who attended the funeral from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Damon and a niece, Mrs. Lizzie Richardson, from Townsend.

James Roger diary entry
15th March 1913
Showery day. David and Daniel packed Mr. Newcomb’s goods at Spofford House. I filled lamps for Finn dance tonight. Got letters from Alice, May, and Hamish. Mrs. Parker found Alice's letter, which was lost on 15th Feb’y. David shut up Hall at night.
Elbridge Davis, we are informed, died at Grasmere. Older members of my family in NI would shudder at the mere mention of that place.
