NEW IPSWICH, Oct. 26.-Eugene B. Beard, 76, died October 20 after a long illness. He was the son of Charles E. Beard and Theresa Spaulding Beard. He spent his life in the house in which he died. He was connected for many years with the grocery store of Wilbur L. Phelps.
He was part owner of the first private telephone system which later became part of the New England Telephone company. Mr. Beard was past master of Bethel lodge, A. F. and A. M.
In 1903 he married Abby Wilson of this town who survives him. The funeral was held in the Congregational church. Rev. Edward Clapp officiated. Bearers were Robert Walker, William Preston, William Bewly, Irvin Rockwood. The Ma- sons and Eastern Star attended in a body.
Out of town relatives and friends who were present were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Gil- man Conant, Mr. and Mrs. Farley Kilburn and Mrs. Roy Wright of Townsend, Mrs. Ernest Young and Earle Young of Temple, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fox of Darien, Conn. Burial was in the Center cemetery.

Unmounted pictures, some tinted, taken by Mr. Charles A. Plumer. Presented to the Historical Society by Mrs. Melinda R. Kendrew, James Anderson House, Williamsburg, Virginia, 1961. Mrs. Plumer was Sally Rockwood Plumer, Great-Aunt of Mrs. Kendrew.
Typed information was found on the back of the pictures in Mr. Plumer's handwriting. Pictures mounted in two books to preserve them by Hazel E. Balch.

20th June 1913
Cloudy with slight showers during the night; wind south westerly. David went to Greenville for grain and oatmeal and after at Mrs. Spofford's till dinner time. I went to office with some letters and called Miss Laura Barr’s who wants 2 broilers tomorrow. Mr. Bauer tuned the piano in Hall and fixed a string. Got letter from Millerton from Marion my sister.
Good old Pearl Thompson and good old Pearl Thompson house. Both classics.
Peter Clark was a member of the NH State Legislature and leader of the Clark Troupe as lead singer and toured the northeast. He later became proprietor of Clark's hotel. William Thayer (Billy Thayer's uncle) bought the Clark house. Interestingly Billy Thayer owned a house off Main St not far from this house in the 1950s.
