Fannie Barr House
William Jurian Kaula diary
14 MAY 1898
What does all this war news amount to? Is this my plan of carrying out the journal of my student days in France? The love of my country and the interest in my fellow men cannot but stir me with such an unusual event of a war. As seen from this side of the water, out of the excitement and change that has taken place in our land, it gives the artists much concern, as war is not apt to help the progress of the fine arts. Artists look for more properous times.
The weather has been so bad and so little can be done outdoors that I shall take this opportunity of going to Paris today. One reason why I have written so little but war news recently is because of some disturbances which have thrown a gloom over me and have depressed me considerably. My work has been more encouraging and has taken a great jump. Thanks to Mr. Dearth who has opened by eyes and encourage me onward, I have accomplished more in the past two months than I ever did before.
James Roger diary entry
14th May 1912
Fair with high west wind and during night so strong. I got up at 3 and went round brooder and incubators. Cloudy afternoon; showers at night. David ploughing at Mr. Bucknam’s till noon, whitewashing ceilings at Putnams’ after. Mrs. Proctor’s funeral this afternoon. Maggie at Dan Brown’s/ Mrs. B. gave her a quantity of old and new things. Got letter from Hamish. Ambulance lecture at Academy tonight.
Nice house. Interesting, has 3 entrances. Was one for guests, the others for staff? Never heard of Fannie? How is she related to the Barrs? Does that house still exist?
