Somewhere in our archives we have a reference sheet with descriptions of photos. However I do not know where that sheet is. This photo has the reference number 99.65. I’ll refer to it as Farm house, fruit trees and bird house.

William Jurian Kaula diary - Paris
This Avenue is a busy thoroughfare, there is a bewildering moving mass of traffic that catches my attention after a few months of rest in a quiet village. There are the steam-trams with several cars, omnibuses, and an ever flowing stream of bicyclists. It is a wide street with three roadways, a concreate [sic] bicycle road, four lines of trees shading gravel walks besides the two sidewalks. We are in the vicinity of the Bois de Boulogne at the Port Millot entrance to Paris.
I visited the new quarters of the American Club on the Quaí Conti. The club has occupied these new rooms for several months and were dedicated with the celebration on the Fourth of July. The contrast between this place and the old musty and dirty rooms on the Boulevard Montparnasse is striking and even astonishing. Here they will occupy almost a whole building which is finished in style even better than some of the so called swell clubs at Boston. It was once a private residence and Napoleon I is said to have lived here. The Salon is finished in hard woods and richly carved besides being resplendent with many mirrors of ample size besides a few decorative paintings which are credited to Boucher. Mrs. Wannamaker has presented a grand piano and much of the draperies. The other rooms are spacious and include a large reading room, a library, a writing room, a dining room, servants rooms, etc. The windows in front face the Seine and the Louve [sic] on the other bank. The club is now so well situated that its success ought to be assured. It was founded with a good object and will live in spite of its enemies. I met two newcomers of former acquaintance, Haskell and Woodbury. The first from Boston and Woodbury is from Winter Hill. There were but few of the old-timers around. Tanner's Salon picture of the Ressurection [sic] of Lazurus [sic] which was purchased by the French Government hangs in state at one of the salons. Tanners fame has spread through America and I saw several illustrations and descriptions of it in various papers. He has returned to Philadelphia.
loving these Kaula entries, they just get more intriguing every time. Thank you so much for sharing John!!
