James Roger diary entries (Catching Up)
11th October (Friday)
Rainy day wind NE to E. A dripping kind of day. David working about Spofford’s and took Nora to depot in forenoon also fertilizing the Burberry hedge at Spofford’s in afternoon. I filled lamps and swept hall for dance tonight. The Grange closed at 12:15 am. The ashes of Ed Fox were brought here today and interred on cemetery. Two other graves dug today, one for Mrs. Russel and one for a brother in law of Albert Walker from Lowell. Dave and I bought rubber boots today.
12th October (Saturday)
Drizzly, cloudy and mild. Wind east to southeast. David choring around Spofford’s all day. Mr.
Spofford and Miss Palmer came per forenoon train. Chauncey Perry called in afternoon also John Pres. I swept hall in forenoon but did not feel well enough to attend Mrs. Russell’s funeral. Dr’ Jones gave me some medicine, and also prescribed a dose of cinnamon which helped my diarrhea. Got letter from Alice and May.
13th October (Sunday)
Fair and cool, wind westerly. Mr. Thompson preached, Mr. Lord being at Ashby preaching for Mr. Loomis who is sick. Mr. T. preached a good sermon on John sending a message to Jesus. Art thou he etc. S.S. after 12 seniors 5 juniors, collection 30 cents. Evening service at 7 pm. Mr. Lord preached on having an object in life etc. Not very many present. Rob Walker took Miss Lowe etc to Fitchburg.
Autumn Fest - Saturday October 14th 2023
Visit the Historical Society Table at the Autumn Fest at Memorial Field this Saturday.

Nice to have the names. At the University of Vermont 1 of my favorite professors was George Howe.
I see Chauncy Perry calling on James again. Did James provide transportation to summer arrivals (or fall departures) to or from the Greenville depot?
