James Roger diary entry
26th February 1913
Hard frost; wind west to southwest. David went to Greenville for coal for Mr. Lowe in the forenoon and helping Leon Willard in the afternoon. Moses Balch had a shock of paralysis this morning. I drew up resolutions for the Grange for the death of Mary Whitney and gave them to Dr. Jones to forward to Sentinel Office. Also lit the Hall fire to dry off the settees. F. Mansfield telephoned that he would come and saw our wood tomorrow if it did not storm. Dr. Jones told me that Mr. Lord and myself had been appointed to the Stearns Lecture Committee. Mr. Lord for one year and me for three years in place of Mr. Gordon and Mr. James Davis, who have left town. Got letter from Jean today.
Seeing a landmark building go down in flames is tough. It's interesting to see how many of the well-known families are (were) connected. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, one picks a mate from those available and in 'your world'.
