Furnace Brook
This may have been posted before. To me it looks like a painting that William Kaula might have done. I wonder if this scene could be seen along what is now Geoffer’s Trail which was donated to the town by Geoff and Dixie Rhoads?
Souhegan River
This photo was not captioned but I’ll make the assumption that it is the Souhegan River.

William Jurian Kaula diary
26 FEB 1898
Since I am going to leave Paris so soon I am absorbed in making preparations. Even the Salon works do not interest me much. I have ordered a frame for my landscape and now wish that I had delayed it until next year. The frame will be a splendid one for future use and the outlay will come much easier this winter than the next. I have ordered two frames for watercolors as well. Frames are very much cheaper in Paris than in Boston. I wish that I could afford to invest in several for future use as there is no expense which is so trying for a poor artist as the cost of frames for exhibitions. I invested in about ten metres of unprepared canvas today which I will prepare for my own use for sketching in the country. The cheapest ordinary canvas (prepared) costs 3.5 Fr a metre in Paris. I can buy splendid canvas and make it ready for use at less than a franc a metre. Good canvas in the stores costs from five francs upward. The saving on canvas will now be considerable. As for colors I will have to spend considerable money as Mr. Dearth insists on using the very best French make - Edouard's. As I have always had the fault of painting too heavily he argues that the expense for colors will be even less than what I need to pay for the cheaper kinds. It is hard enough to paint with the best of colors.

James Roger diary entry
26th (Wednesday)
Snow all day wind east. David went to Chandler for grass cutting machine and wheel for barn door and choring around. F Hardy took rods for chandeliers from Hall to get shortened. Broke one of the globes. We expect Hamish to be in Greenville tonight as messenger.
The top photo could be Furnace Brook near Tenney Rd. The bottom one is definitely an old swimming hole of ours in the Souhegan. If you look at a Google map (street view) of 288 Turnpike Rd you will see a house that once belonged to Joe Duval. The driveway to the left led to a trail that brought you to a swimming hole with that rock in the middle. Al Desrosiers, myself, the Yypa kids, RoseAnn Duval, and other Highbridge kids swam there.
