Death of George Wheeler
George Samuel Wheeler died Monday, May 30, at his home, having been in feeble health the past few weeks.
He was the son of George W. and Elvira (Blanchard) Wheeler and was born April 30, 1840, in the house where he died.
Mr. Wheeler succeeded to his father's farm and continued the activities of his father, conducting a milk route for years and an apiary. He was interested in the cultivation of fruit trees.
For a long time he has spent the winters in Owanita, Fla., where he had a home and cultivated orange trees, roses, flowers and a vegetable garden.
He was active until the past few months in household duties and other interests. He has had the "gold cane" for several years.
Mr. Wheeler is survived by a sister, Clara Elvira (Wheeler) Raymond, who resides with her husband, George Theron Raymond, in Owanita, Fla. They have two sons, Wilfred Wheeler Raymond and Arthur E. Raymond. Mr. Wheeler leaves an adopted son. Charles Wheeler, who has lived with him for many years.
Funeral services were held in the Congregational church Wednesday afternoon. Rev. H. Stanley Holton officiated. Burial was in the Center cemetery.

James Roger diary entry
27th May 1913
Raw wind easterly; showers in afternoon. David at Jim Davis’ and would have finished but for the rain coming on. Mother had good night but restless day; had nausea in forenoon and a passage of bloody matter in afternoon after a painful attack followed by a good deal of diarrhea, which left her very weak and tired out. Got letter from Mrs. Leighton about flowers for her lot. Also cards of invitation for graduation and reception at Academy. Mr. Kimball called with the flowers for his vase about 5 p.m. Brown Bros. wants some fowls on Thursday. Alice got letter from Lila Mair inquiring for mother. I trimmed lots and went to mail.
Thank you, John, for posting those photos. Stopping to remember the past is both a sobering and a good thing at the same time.
