Gibson Village some years ago had a sawmill, gristmill, carriage shop, blacksmith shop and a paint shop near the present Balch mill and a thriving line of industries were conducted. The present Walker mill is a very old establishment and has sheltered numerous different kinds of business under its roof since the early history of the town.

One Hundred Formulas
George Carmichael donated a copy of Stephen A. Thayer’s “One Hundred Formulas” which was published in 1883. It contains recipes from everything from printing ink to pain killers. Another cough conqueror, this one contains elecampane.
WARNING: Please don’t try any of these “remedies”, many contain ingredients which have been shown to be harmful.
James Roger diary entry

Cold and clear wind N.W. moderating in the afternoon. Mr. Peacock preached on the Angel & Elijah, “arise and eat”. Communion day. No S.S. C.E. meeting at 7:00 pm topic “The Sleepless Eye”. Leader Miss Taylor.
Nice old photos of mills. And of bumblebee.
Andy Rooney on 60 Minutes once said the advice of drinking plenty of liquids and getting plenty of bed rest when sick is impossible to follow. If one drank a glass of water or milk at bedtime containing Thayer’s latest herbal alcoholic cough concoction, one would be up all night in the bathroom.
I lived less than a mile from Gibson 4 Corners and never knew the full extent of Gibson Village.
