Death of Herman A. White
Herman A. White, 72 years old. town clerk and treasurer, and who long had been identified with the activities of this town, died suddenly Saturday night. He had been apparently in his usual health and engaged in active work.
He was the son of Isaac B. White and Timnah (Mansfield) White of Peterboro, and was born March 3, 1858. Не received his education in Peterboro.
After leaving school he went to work in the Peterboro Transcript office, where he remained four years. After leaving the printer's trade, he left his native town and was employed in Fitchburg for some time, and also in Meredith, but later located in Boston.
Mr. White played in the Collins First Regiment band of Boston for years, and also played in churches and elsewhere.
Mr. White belonged to the Peterboro Odd Fellows' lodge, being one of the oldest members.
On Aug. 17, 1905, he married Mina Margaret MacDonald. He was clerk at the "New England House," Boston, for 19 years, and they lived at the hotel, Later he resigned his position there and purchased a house in New Ipswich in 1921 and had resided here ever since.
Mr. White held several offices in his adopted town. Besides being town clerk and treasurer, he was treasurer of the school board and justice of the peace. He was appointed by the state to issue licenses for fish and game sportsmen. Mr. White was loyal to his friends, a good neighbor and a highly respected citizen.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist church. Rev. Edward Holton of Newburyport, Mass, and his son. Rev Stanley H. Holton, pastor in this town, were the officiating clergymen. The bearers were Clarence White, Walter Hardy and Edward R. Wheeler of New Ipswich and three from Peterboro and the undertaker. Burial was in the family lot in his native town. The committal service was conducted by Rev. Stanley H. Holton.
The superintendent of the schools, Vernon S. Ames, had the schools closed Tuesday afternoon out of respect for Mr. White.
Relatives of Mr. White living in this town are Mrs. Albro Balch, Albert and, Willis Mansfield and a cousin, Clarence White, who has been appointed to fill the offices made vacant by Mr. White for the remainder of the year. A niece of Mrs. Herman White, Mrs. Marcella Addison of Watertown, has been with her and Mr. and Mrs. Pond of Attleboro are with Mrs. Herman White for the present. Mrs. Pond is a niece of the late John Barnett.

Cool morning; northerly wind, but good working day. David at Hardy’s garden in forenoon and Mrs. Spofford’s in afternoon with Walter Hardy. Mother keeping better. Got letter from Alice who cannot come for some days. Doctor pleased with mother’s condition today.

According to Taimi's obit inte Fitchburg Sentinel Taimi was the daughter of Fred and Amilia Asiala of N.I..she graduated from Appleton Academy in 1936. She served during World War 2 in the Army Nurse Corps . With the rank of First Lieutenant. She served aboard the U.S. Army ship Chateau Thiery. After the war she spent 20 years with the Fitchburg Visiting Nurse Association.
