Crécy was once surrounded with its wall and guarded by ninety nine towers - why not an even hundred? unless it did not wish to be known as the city of a hundred towers. There are remains of but about seventeen. The city suffered much during the Revolution and all of the wars of France though there were but few important incidents that would figure in history of the country.
