The object of the girls' basketball season of 1935-36 has been not to win games, but to build for the future. This season Coach Camp had a squad of twelve girls, six of whom were without previous experience. Agnes Pusey of Greenville has handled the position of center very capably. Vieno Ypya has been excelling as side centre for three years. Bertha Russell and Helen DesRosiers of Greenville have proved their ability as guards many times. Meriam Kangas and Effie Lilius share honors at the left forward position.
Two Pews for the Congregational Church
The Congregational church voted, Sept. 21, to accept the offer of Mrs. Elizabeth M. Barrett to purchase two pews, Nos. 30 and 31, outright, for which she made the proposition to pay $1000. After the deed is executed and presented she will make the payment and the pews will be known as the Elizabeth M. Barrett pews, the property of the purchaser and her successors. Mrs. Barrett after the destruction of the old church, before the embers had died out, responded most nobly and generously with an offer of $5000 to- wards the erection of a new edifice. She has acted the part of a good angel and made it possible to have a new Congregational church in New Ipswich. The goodness of her heart was touched at once and the prosperity of the church assured. Seldom can a like occurrence be noted in city or town where such responses came until nearly $11,000 was raised, and today the church stands free of debt with a balance in the treasury. There is also a good fund invested, including the Everett fund. This noble benefactress deserves the praise of the members of the congregation as well as the entire community for her unsolicited acts of philanthropy here.
James Roger diary entries - More bug deathing
10th July 1912
Warm and dry; west wind going to northwest; thunder to the north in afternoon but no rain. David cut the Jim Davis field—a splendid crop both in quality and quantity. We brought in one good load of the driest. I picked 2 fowls and bug deathed the potatoes and helped with the hay.
