6th (Monday)
Frosty. Snow during the night which soon melted with sun heat making roads muddy. Wind west to north west. David at Greenville for grain &c. for Shirland. I watered cattle, turned eggs, fed hens &c. Helped David to fix a frame for starting plants and flowers &c. Got letter from Hamish who is keeping well, but Berkley had fallen off a truck and was laid up for a day or two. Also papers from Miss Bryce with account of explosion at powder mill magazine in old quarry hole. And Archd Horsburg [?] blown to pieces.
