St. Swithins Day. Cloudy morning; warm, muggy day; wind west to southwest. David cutting hay for D. Maynard in forenoon and mowing there in afternoon. Also got in load of hay from Jim Davis’ field. I tossed the hay twice, picked a fowl, planted a row of cabbage, and weeded some. Got letter from Hamish from Chatham where he went yesterday to attend a funeral of an old fellow-mate on the railway. Got p.c. from May who enjoyed her auto ride. The p.c. should have been on Saturday but had been missent to Mason. David got telephone message from Newcombs who come tomorrow. Sandy and Mary came by stage as Chandler forgot to go with his auto to meet them
