Observe 50th Anniversary At New Ipswich
(Special to The Sentinel) NEW IPSWICH, N. H., May 4 Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Silver today are celebrating their 50th anniversary at their home. -
They were married May 4, 1884,in New Ipswich by Rev. William R. Thompson. Mr. Silver was born in Rockport, Mass., and Mrs. Silver in Ashburnham. For 12 years Mr. Silver was proprietor of a store on the site of the Masonic building. For six years he was a selectman and for many years he was chief of the fire department and road agent. For 36 years he and Mrs. Silver were in the hotel business, first at Clark's hotel and then at Appleton Inn. He has returned four times to the Azores islands, where his ancestors lived.
They have had five sons. George Silver of this town and Joseph of Harrisburg, Pa., and a niece, Miss Eva Willard, who lives with them, are helping with the celebration. Friends sent flowers and cards and a poem written for the occasion.
It was the second golden wedding anniversary in New Ipswich this week. Mr. and Mrs. Leander Davis observed their anniversary May 1 at the home farm, where they have passed their entire married life. In 1891 a son, Wilbur, was born. He died in infancy. The two daughters, Mrs. Robert Lawrence of Wollaston and Miss Hazel Davis, a teacher in Framingham, Mass., celebrated with their parents, coming here Sunday to offer congratulations.

Fair and cold; wind west. David & Roger ploughing in forenoon. Roger took Alice to Greenville to see about her tickets and expressing baggage. I cut lots. Got letter from Hamish.
I find the sign above his head interesting, it seems to have a lot of small print. That photo was taken when Abbie Phelps was 26, so she may have known this peculiar man personally. I wonder what she considered 'peculiar'.
