James Roger diary entry
22nd March 1913
High wind all night from northwest; frosty, fair, and cold. David at Lonie’s all day. I sawed some old wood, lit fire in Church, went to mail but it was late owing to the muddy roads. Phil Thompson brought it in the afternoon. Mrs. McKown and children practising (British spelling) at Church for Easter. Got Easter Cards from the Gordons and Johnnie, postcard from Hamish, and letter from Alice with dollar bill.
Little Ruth had a brother, Frank Edward who was born October 1902 and died Jan. 1903. Also had a sister Florence who was born 1903 and died 2003! Their parents Edward and Ida lived in Smithville and I remember getting freshly baked cookies with my friend Bob Johnson from Ida.
Very sad. Seeing one's children die is the worst experience one could have. I think they lived in the house that now belongs to Ollie Niemi. My grandparents lost 2 sons around 1918.
