11th (Friday)
Very warm day wind NW, very smokey all day. Sun red like a ball of fire. David and Henry Royce shaking out the hay which they brought in in the afternoon. Got letter from Jim saying he was going to a business school in New York.
A few yrs ago I attended a memorial service for a friend's daughter at Philips Exeter Academy. There is a Gould House and also a Hooper House on that campus. I often wonder why Appleton Academy did not attract the donors that Philips Exeter did.
