A Question
Doctor or Butcher? (Maybe both?)
We enjoyed chatting with folks at the Autumn Festival yesterday at Memorial Field. Norma Straitiff had a question about a tin-type photo of a man wearing a white apron. It was in her collection but she is unsure if it is a relative, one who was responsible for food safety. The question is of the man’s occupation, doctor or butcher. Any ideas?
James Roger diary entries
15th October (Tuesday)
Fair but cold and windy. Wind northwest. David picking apples at Mr. Lowe’s and overhauling some at Mrs. Spofford’s. I went to mail. Saw Mr. Prindle whose wife had another shock today. Got letter from Sandy. Papers full of attempted assassination of Col. Roosevelt at Milwaukee by a crank from New York called Schrank. Wound not serious as he delivered his speech after.
That baby looks very intent on acquiring important information.
And a crank named Shrank trying to make a name for himself. Things haven’t changed much. Unfortunately.
I say butcher. I also admire the wood turning he's standing next to. Don't forget to put a name on the back of that baby photo.
