Marguerite Stegeman's Death Marguerite (Burton) Stegeman, daughter of John M. and Blanche Burton, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 30, at the hospital, where she been for two and a half weeks. She had been operated upon for acute appendicitis.
She was 24 years of age and was born in New Ipswich, June 9, 1903. She attended the grammar schools of her native town, and attended Appleton academy for two years.
She was married to Edward Stegeman of Jamaica Plain, Mass., May 9. 1921. She is survived by her husband and one child, a daughter, Marguerite, four years of age.
Funeral services at her late home, 182 Boylston street, Jamaica Plain, were conducted by Rev. Mr. Pomeroy of the Congregational church, Jamaica Plain. Burial was in Gethsemane cemetery, West Roxbury, Mass.
Relatives present at the services were her parents, John M. and Blanch Burton of New Ipswich, and Milton Burton, Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Burton of Ayer, Mass., Joseph Burton and Richard Burton, New Ipswich; her sisters, Mrs. P. E. Thorton, New York City and Mrs. Lorine Burton of Jamaica Plain..

Charles O. Vogel visited New Ipswich on April 16, 2016. Charles is author of "Wanderings after the Wild and Beautiful": “The life and career of Benjamin Champney". He came to tour the town to learn more about the artists Champney and the Kaulas. However he showed interest in our present day artists also. He plans to return in May.

Fair, windy, clouding down in afternoon, wind southwest. David at Spoffords’ all day. I took 228 chickens out incubator. Alice and I went to Greenville in afternoon. I got haircut, bought hat and tie. Alice bought curtains, etc. in Hartshorn's. Mrs. Barnett called in the afternoon. Mother feeling better. Got letters from May and Hamish, also parcel of jelly powder from May. Mrs. Spofford, Miss P, and another lady arrived
Marguerite the elder might have survived had she been born at a later decade and Marguerite the younger would have grown up with a mommy. Tragic case. Was the Joe Burton mentioned in that story the same person who lived near the old blacksmith shop in town during the 50s, I.e., Joe and Maude Burton?
Yes, that is the same Joe Burton that we knew. Joe died in the 1980's, his brother Milton lived till 2002.
