Mrs. Poole, Widow of Civil War Vet, Dies 1937
JAFFREY, Jan. 14-Mrs. Marion A. (Wellman) (Spofford) Poole, widow of John W. Poole, the town's last Civil War veteran, who died several years ago, died at the Peterborough hospital Thursday. She was born in New Ipswich, June 19, 1859, daughter of Jesse P. and Achsah J. (Coburn) Wellman. Her first husband, J. Hamilton Spofford, died in 1895.
Mrs. Poole was widely known, especially in grange circles, for her reading and recitations. For many years she served as chaplain of Jaffrey grange.
She leaves five children, Mrs. Marion Bunce, Mrs. Helen Shattuck, and Carl C. Spofford, of this town, Rolland Spofford of California, and John W. Poole, 3rd, of El Dorado, Ark.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Annie K. Sweatt, Mrs. Carrie Whitney, and Mrs. Mary Whitney..

Unmounted pictures, some tinted, taken by Mr. Charles A. Plumer. Presented to the Historical Society by Mrs. Melinda R. Kendrew, James Anderson House, Williamsburg, Virginia, 1961. Mrs. Plumer was Sally Rockwood Plumer, Great-Aunt of Mrs. Kendrew.
Typed information was found on the back of the pictures in Mr. Plumer's handwriting. Pictures mounted in two books to preserve them by Hazel E. Balch.

Cloudy and warm; wind variable; like to rain in the evening. Rain very much needed. David teaming sand for Barrett in forenoon and at the tennis court in afternoon.
