James Roger diary entry - Northeast forest fires?
10th (Thursday)
Dull and Smokey, sun red like copper wind west. David and Henry spreading hay and grading Webber lot. I went for grain in morning and chored round after. Got letter from Alice and views of Oyster House.

William Jurian Kaula diary
I am grinding away daily at French grammar and recite my lesson every other day to Miss Shuttleworth. It is very hard to find sufficient time for study as I go out to work soon after breakfast and do not return until noon. And in the afternoon it is the same, I am out until sundown and at that time I want to limber out my joints on a bicycle ride before dinner. We spend the evenings around the table and in the salon if it is not pleasant as it has been rainy and cold recently. We indulge in games of amusement - a tame bagatelle board being the most popular. Cartwright is not much in games except that he has a preference for billiards which we all try to play occasionally in a room over one of the cafés of the ville. It is a cheap place, the cost being but fifteen cents an hour. We have also another game for the open air in the yard. It is battledore and shuttlecock - a game for children, but we have made it much more scientific by introducing various forms of tennis in the way of a rough court and net.
Gravestone Cleaning Project
Carl Toko has started work on cleaning the gravestone of Myron Kendall Chandler at Smithville Cemetery.
An old photo of this grave was posted on the Find a Grave website by Ron Knapp. The cemetery looked a lot different back then.
