Death of Mrs. Alice Ann (Dix) Goen.
She was born Nov. 24, 1846 and died Sept. 10, 1916. Her parents were Robert and Minerva (Slyvester) Dix. Besides Mrs. Goen there was a sister, Abbie. She was educated in the public schools of Townsend. A. Jackson Goen and Miss Alice Ann Dix were married Jan. 1, 1871, and took up. their residence in this town. Mr. Goen died Jan. 1, 1901, due to an accident while at work in the woods. Their children were Emma E., Kate B., М. Alice Eddie and Mary (who died in infancy), Charles H., Sarah E., and Ernest E. Goen. The grandchildren number 12.
Rev. John E. Bowman conducted the funeral services. The singers were Mrs. Ella B. Walker, Robert B. Walker, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. Wheeler. They sang "Lead Kindly Light," and "Abide With Me." The flowers were beautiful.
The bearers were Charles H. and Ernest E. Goen, Edward B. Morse and Dixon D. Wheeler. Henry S. Farrar was conductor.
Mrs. Goen had been quite feeble for several years. She was a kind neighbor and a great lover of children. The interment was in the family lot in Smithville cemetery.

14th February 1913 - Cold Day
Hard frost; 7 below zero; wind westerly; very fine day. David drawing ice for Flushing. I chored round breaking old wood, etc. and went to mail; rested in afternoon. Got letter from May, and Margaret and Barbara have got the Mumps. Elizabeth & Janet are going to school on Monday.
Jack Goen had a large tree fall on him due to the wind while he was cutting it. He was 71.
