Mrs. Almeda Ferrin, who died at the Burbank hospital, Fitchburg Mass., Aug. 31st, made her home with Mr. and Mrs. David Salmond of Fitchburg. She was at her home in Smithville for a week-end Aug. 27 when she fell and broke her hip. Next morning she was taken to Fitchburg and she died three days later as a result of her injuries.
Mrs. Ferrin was born in this town Jan. 23, 1845, the daughter of Russell and Lucy (Taylor) Farwell. She received her education in the public schools and at Appleton academy. On July 4, 1858, she united with the Congregational church and was a conscientious worker in the church all her life. At the time of her death she was the oldest member in years of membership with the church. Early in life she learned the trade of a tailoress and worked in Fitchburg, Worcester, Mass., and Keene, N. H., many years, returning to this town in 1895 to care for her sister and aged parents.
She was married to Levi E. Ferrin, Oct. 1, 1899, and he died Nov. 30, 1904. She continued to live in her home until 1929, failing health caused her to dispose of her home to her cousin, Edwin Farwell of Natick, Mass.
For a time she boarded with Mrs. Emma Lamb in Greenville and later with Mrs. David Salmond, the daughter of her cousin, in Fitchburg. The funeral was held at the Sawyer
Funeral Home, Fitchburg, Monday at 2 p. m. Rev. John Elliot Bowman of Boston, a former pastor of the Congregational church of this town, had charge of the services, as she had requested. A large number of relatives and friends from this town, where she had lived the greater part of her life and from other places were present. Burial was in the Farwell lot at Central cemetery.
