Dies At New Ipswich
Mrs. Julia A. Lowe, widow. of George N. Lowe, died at her home about 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
She was born in Pittsfield, N. H., Dec. 8, 1834, the daughter of Charles and Julia (Obear) Chickering. Her father was the brother of Jonas Chickering, who gave the Chickering piano its eminent position.
At the age of two years she came to New Ipswich and for almost 94 years village had been her home. For 66 years she had lived in the house in which she died.
On Nov. 3, 1853, she was married to George N. Lowe, who died in February, 1920. Six children were born to them, Julia Frances, who was married to Dr. Horace M. Nash; George Frederick, who died April 15, 1905; Abby Ellen, who was married to Robert L. Cumnock; Caroline, a teacher in the Underwood school, Newton, Mass., and two sons, who died in infancy.
Mrs. Lowe was the oldest person in town. She enjoyed excellent health to the last and always was interested in all the people and events of the town. She was a devoted wife and mother and a home lover, She was beloved by all and old and young delighted to visit her. Her home was a center to which all her friends came frequently.
She is survived by her three daughters, Mrs. Frances Nash and Miss Caroline Lowe of New Ipswich and Mrs. Abby Cumnock of Altavista, Va.; five grandchildren, Robert Cumnock of Stamford, Conn.; Chester and John Cumnock of Altavista, Va.; Mrs. Annie Cumnock Miller of Norfold, Conn., and Miss Dolly Lowe of Concord, N. H. Thera
are also nine great grandchildren. The funeral was held this afternoon.

8th May 1913
Fair and cool; wind variable. David ploughing for Mr. Lord in forenoon and at Mrs. Stowe’s funeral. He dug the grave yesterday. He ploughed at Buckman’s afternoon. I chored round and got Hall for Grange. Got letter from May and they are well and busy. Grange closed at 10:45 p.m.
Uncle Chuck off to the Seabees!
Gah! I Shame ion me! I think I got this particular cousin, John Julkka Kangas, also of New Ipswich, confused with my paternal Uncle John Jukka “Chuck” Kangas! I should have known better. His face was too round and he didn’t have that peering look in his eyes.
