NEW IPSWICH
Correspondent: Mrs. Bessie Cushing,
Mrs. Minnie Fox, widow of the late Edward M. Fox, died suddenly of a heart attack at her home in Rockport early Friday morning. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Helen Stewart, and two sons, Charley, who lives in New York, and Harry, who is employed in the post office in Minneapolis; also five grandchildren. Over 45 years ago the family came here each summer, driving over the road with their horses from Boston to the old Fox homestead, now "Barr Harbor." For many years Mr. Fox conducted an express business in Bos- ton, known as the Allen and Fox Express. The ashes are to be buried Tuesday in the family lot in the Main street cemetery.
William Thompson House
James Roger diary entry
23rd June 1913
Fair and warm; went to bed at 1 AM this morning. David at Birchwood painting today. I sawed wood and helped Alice a little in cleaning up pantry and shifting dishes from pantry to parlor closet. Also burning rubbish. Got letters today from Maud Larrabee, James Bolton, and Warren Loope; also from Hamish.
In the photo of Pearl Thompson’s house, the former historical society building, you can clearly see the sidewalk that started from somewhere downtown and went up to the Congregational Church. If only the town would restore that sidewalk, it would encourage safe walking in the center of town. There are still some iron posts lying in the ditches where it used to be.
