James Roger diary entry
22nd February 1913
Sleet during night and drizzly all day; wind northeast; roads very slippery and looks like ice storm. David emptied sawdust, etc. and lit Church fire. I swept Hall and filled lamps for Finn dance tonight; got letter from Margaret and all well at Ayer; also pc (postcard) from Hamish, who feels OK again. School board warrant posted today. I am better with very little cramp today. Heavy sleet, showers with lightning at night, not many at Finn dance, which closed at 11 p.m.
Actually, Walter was active as a public servant until 1969. He stepped down from the Board of the Mason Village Savings Bank in 1969 after serving 73 years in that position. I worked for him in 1959.
Mr. & Mrs. Walter Thayer sang Nellie's funeral. Walter was also a Selectman at this time and held other positions in town. He also was a businessman and provided employment to town residents. He was still active in town even in 1960!
