New Ipswich Historical Society Elects - Aug 26 1937
At the annual meeting of the Historical society, officers were re- elected as follows: President, Mrs. Anne Thayer; 1st vice-president, Mrs. Jennie Patterson; 2d vice-president, Miss Caroline Lowe; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Abbie Phelps; curator, Mrs. Anna McLaughlin.
Archibald Eaton spoke on the history of Mason, interweaving borderline New Ipswich residents. Mason village did not get a settled name for many years. It was the harbor, then for a short while following a formal christening ceremony Souhegan village, and now Greenville. Mason center was named Mason for John Mason in its charter, although its inhabitants requested Sharon. The school districts have kept names given them 110 years ago, Hardscrabble, Skunks, Misery and Marblehead.
Letters still preserved show that Obadiah Parker received mail via Wheeler's tavern, tavern, New Ipswich. Bessie Tarbell Cushing had a Mason ancestor, Capt. Thomas Tarbell with seven stalwart sons about whom a chronicle has been written.

I think the man carrying the tuba in front of himself is my great grandfather Albert Larned Howe. Thanks for posting. Would love higher resolution of this photo as I do not have it.
