James Roger diary entry
1st April 1908 (Wednesday) 26
Fine day but cold North wind. David choring round. Piling wood &c. Dr. called today and recommended to stay in house for another day. Hamish telephoned this morning to ask After me and said he had had a fine night and felt first rate. I had letter from Cora who says her father’s foot is improving but Elizabeth had measles. James a cold. David and his mother lame backs.
Wilbur and Abbie Phelps General Store is wonderfully mentioned in Howard Mansfield's book In The Memory House along with Wilbur's maroon grocery horse drawn wagon.
The Fennia Market was run at one time by a Uuno Taavela who was a friend of Tom and Aina Parhiala. He also told us a story of his daughter playing at Central School when it was being built and her falling into the basement. Luckily she didn't get hurt.
