Apple pressing on Taylor Road.
It's nice to see someone smiling in an old photo. Most would think Olga and Otto Weisman were German. They were both born in Finland and considered themselves Finnish. The photo is not super old, late 30s would be my guess. On the topic of apple pressing in the 1950s I worked at the apple cider plant in Greenville. Two men per press, one on each side, loading and unloading. Leo Nelson (also a Finn) was my partner. He could bench press over 300 lb. Keeping up with him wasn't easy. Our shift was 4am too 4pm. We started at 4am because the bottling crew needed the juice at 7am.
Pay was $1.25/hr.
Do you have a clue to the location in the photo?
