How do you organize hundreds of years of documents, newspaper clippings, diaries, deeds, letters, books, photos, maps and brochures? The answer is you enlist the talents of Kim Black and members of the New Ipswich Historical Society. Kim has worked out categories and each of these boxes will eventually contain sorted material that will be entered into a spreadsheet.
This is an ongoing project and NIHS President John Rosenfelder remarked that each discovery leads to another project for us to undertake.
Featured Mystery Photo
My specialty in this project is categorizing the photographs. Unlike modern digital smartphone files, there is no metadata. There are no dates or GPS coordinates. However many of the buildings are still standing and remarkably unchanged. I have an interest in some of the buildings that no longer exist. This building is obviously a sawmill as evidenced by the large pile of sawdust seen on the right side of the photo.
What makes it unique is the overshot waterwheel that powers it. I wonder where it was located.
