Leon R. Willard Photograph
Leon (Lonnie) R. Willard was the town photographer, painter and chicken farmer. All of his printed photos were stamped with his name. I suspect he might have taken some of ones we have as glass negatives. This one was among the donated photos given by Orville Antilla. It had a caption “Smithville Schoolhouse” which is clearly wrong. Leave a comment if you can identify the house.
A Mystery - Saints Rest.
This donated photo had the caption “Saints Rest. Bank Village”. Did they mean “Saints Restaurant”? I can imagine it being a riverside casual restaurant since Bank Village was a popular swimming and canoeing venue.

James Roger diary entry
25th (Wednesday)
Frost. Very bright day with cold north wind. David on sidewalks. Hamish better. Got telephone from Mr. Scripture asking him to come as soon as he can. I went to meeting at Miss Taylor’s about roll call. Went to Mrs. Royce’s at night.
Looks more like the Old Town Hall.
Have you considered the school house between upper and lower school streets?
