Dull day wet day wind N.E. David went out with team but came home owing to rain. Went to Greenville for plough. Mother and I went to club house for 3 hours in afternoon. I fixed vestry for church social and hall for Grange only 7 present.

We received a notice that it was about time that we appeared before the village authorities and registered. It was but the work of a few moments to produce our papers and get our new "permission to live." The mayor was nothing but a peasant clad in the blue blouse and scatched [sic] an unintelligable signature upon the document and stamped the official blue seal.
