REBUILDS PLANT AT NEW IPSWICH
Robert Walker Soon To Have Wheels Turning Again After June 21 Fire
NEW IPSWICH, Sept. 7.-Rober B. Walker has been a busy man the last three months. On June 21 his wood turning plant was destroyed by fire and he has been busy rebuilding and at the same time conducting his campaign for the Governor's Council.
The new plant consists of three buildings, all of fireproof construction with the exception of the roofs. Mr. Walker has personally supervised the work of reconstruction, even drawing the plans for the buildings. The burning building is made of cement blocks with a floor of the same material and is 75 feet long and 24 feet wide. The finishing and shipping building is also of cement and is 72 by 20 feet. The boiler room is of brick and some of the brick used in its construction came from the original building on the site, a small mill used for the manufacture of cotton goods.
Immediately after the destruction of the former plant Mr. Walker received many tempting offers of sites in other localities but he decided to rebuild where his family has been engaged in the wood turning business since 1814. Mr. Walker employs about 30 men at the plant and each one gave one week's labor without pay in cleaning up the debris and starting the rebuilding. Practically the whole force has been employed through the summer on the work of reconstruction.
The new plant is modern in every way. The latest machinery has been installed and electricity needed will be generated right on the job. New Ipswich people are much pleased that Mr. Walker's industry will soon be running after the disaster that fell upon it this summer..
