William Jurian Kaula diary
Time has slipped away so rapidily [sic] that I hardly realize that it is eight months since I left Boston, except when I caress my whiskers in search of my chin and know that these bristles did not grow in a single night. Artists are famous for their wool-growing capabilities and it is necessary to seek the seclusion of some little country village like this where there are but few friends who can comment upon your personal appearance, especially when your face resembles an animal not unlike a porcupine. The "tadpole state" is not at all beautiful.
