NEW IPSWICH, Dec. 22. 1900 -Walter S. Thayer of this town was seriously injured by a wild bull, one day this week, and he attributes his escape from death to his dog. This dog has a wide reputation among farmers for his sagacity in catching wild cattle and every autumn, after the cattle have been running at large for a season, Mr. Thayer has many calls to assist in capturing beasts which could otherwise not be taken. This week Mr. Thayer was engaged to go to Dublin. Among the animals which he was to secure was a vicious bull. The pressure of the animal's head started several ribs, and the bull began pawing and thrashing in a way that threatened to end the man's life. All this time the dog had been vainly trying to take part in the struggle, and at length seized a lucky chance and caught the bull by the nose with his teeth. The dog kept hold and while the bull rushed about, trying to free himself, Mr. Thayer was rescued by his friends,

That bullfighting dog deserves a posthumous medal.
I worked for the Thayers from 1958-1961. I never met Walter's dog but heard about him. Yes, a posthumous medal is well deserved.
